Good read on MXLarge....

What's this about? OK I'll spill-
The GPs are moving their schedule in 2011 to start in May, so it won't conflict with the end of AMA/FIM SX in the US.
That way GP riders that want to ride SX (the young guys want to) don't have to stay and ride the US nationals - they can still do GPs as well.
Also, if someone from the US is doing SX-only, they have the option of riding GPs too. I doubt this will ever be more than 1 or 2, if any.
SX is also FIM, so if you did SX then the GPs, you would be riding two FIM championships.
MX Spurts, that runs the US nationals, is freaking out about this, but they won't tell you the whole truth. That is they have been busy for years trying very hard to recruit GP riders away so they can race SX, and then they are stuck with racing the MX nationals as well. It's no coincidence that you see people on message boards saying "the GPs are just a feeder series for the US" This is planned and people have been working hard to push that message.
You can't blame Youthstream for making this move. It's smart and a response to Spurts trying for years to lure it's riders away. They are making it possible to race two FIM championships, and addressing the rider stealing problem at the same time.
