KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak clinches 2009 Geico Powersports EnduroCross Championship with a win in Denver

A win at the Vegas final could earn Blazusiak a $50,000 bonus for winning all three rounds of the Geico Triple Crown

DENVER, CO (October 24, 2009) –  Taddy Blazusiak has proven to be tough to beat in the 2009 Geico EnduroCross series presented by E3 Spark Plugs and tonight, he survived an early battle with Geoff Aaron and race long pressure from Lucas Oil backed Colton Haaker to take the win.  Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Damon Huffman rounded out the podium.

Blazusiak, arguably the world’s top “Extreme Enduro” rider in the world right now started the day by setting the fastest lap time during the afternoon qualifying session, which puts the riders on the track by themselves for a single hot lap to determine heat race starting positions.  Zip Ty – Husquvarna’s Cory Graffunder had set a seemingly unbeatable 1:08.163 lap time after Blazusiak predicted a 1:10 would be the fasted time possible.  Then Blazusiak pulled off a 1:07.117 to take the top spot.  Geoff Aaron proved that he has indeed been improving his speed by setting the third fastest time with a 1:08.650.

Blazusiak collected the $500 Girardi Wealth Management holeshot award and it seemed that he may have an easy race until Aaron went past at the end of the first lap.  Blazusiak then made an aggressive pass by jumping over the finish line tire section and colliding with Aaron in the next corner.  Aaron unfortunately hit the ground and with that, the only rider with a chance to beat Blazusiak in the championship was a long way back.  Lucas Oil / Kawasaki backed Colton Haaker and Husqvarna’s Graffunder battled over second for a few laps before Haaker took control of the spot.  He managed to keep Blazusiak honest until closing stages of the main event.  Huffman worked his way up from a sixth place start to take the final spot on the podium and Aaron charged b to the finish and took forth by passing FMF / Am-Pro Yamaha’s Kyle Redmond through the final obstacle just in front of the finish line.

Blazusiak clinched the 2009 Geico Powersports EnduroCross championship by opening up an insurmountable 36 point lead over Geoff Aaron.  Huffman holds a scant one point lead for third over Colton Haaker.  Haaker took over the points lead in the chase for the E3 Spark Plugs’ EnduroCross Pro Junior Championship, the series within a series that allows riders aged 16-21 to compete for an AMA number one plate.  Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder came into the Denver round with a narrow three point lead but finished ninth tonight and now finds himself ten points behind.

Blazusiak now has a chance to win the $50,000 Geico Powersports Triple Crown bonus if he can close the season with a win at the Vegas final on November 21st.  Ironically, it was Blazusiak that passed the Isle of Man’s David Knight at the 2007 Las Vegas final to keep him from winning the $50,000.  You can bet that there will be several riders on hand to do the same to Blazusiak and Knight himself has even said that he may be there to do so.

American Motorcyclist Association praises launch of motorcycle crash study

Oklahoma State University will conduct federal study supplemented by donations from AMA, state safety programs

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- A significant new motorcycle crash causation study will soon get under way at Oklahoma State University (OSU), the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) reports. Formally announced by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) on Oct. 5, the study will give motorcyclists and others concerned with highway safety a fuller picture of how motorcycles fit into today's traffic mix, a better understanding of what causes motorcycle crashes, and insights into the best strategies to prevent these crashes.

"The announcement that the full study will now begin is great news," said Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations. "While the study will take years to complete, it promises to offer up information that will allow for the creation of effective countermeasures to make the roads safer for all of us."

The last major motorcycle crash study, called "Motorcycle Accident Cause Factors and Identification of Countermeasures," commonly known as the Hurt Report (named after lead researcher Harry Hurt), was published in 1981. It provided a wealth of data that has been used to develop training and strategies to help keep riders safer on the road. In the decades since, the traffic environment has changed enormously, prompting the AMA to begin campaigning for a new study several years ago.

"There is certainly a lot more traffic now than when Harry Hurt and his team did their research," Moreland said. "SUVs didn't exist back then, and motorcycles have advanced light years in technology. On top of that, distracted driving poses a significant safety challenge. We will certainly learn a lot from this new study."

The FHWA is overseeing the OSU project, which will be administered at the Oklahoma Transportation Center, an independent and well-respected research facility in Stillwater. Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration conducted a pilot study in the Southern California area to finalize the methodology for the comprehensive research study.

"OSU is delighted to be the lead research institution for this important study," said Dr. Alan Tree, associate dean for research in OSU's College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology. "We expect very significant, scientifically valid results to emerge from this work, and look forward to a very positive final outcome."

In 2005, Congress approved the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users, and the legislation called for the study. Lawmakers pledged $2.8 million for the research, and asked the motorcycling community to match it.

"In 2007, the AMA committed $100,000, and AMA members contributed an additional $27,000 in our Fuel the Fund campaign," Moreland said. "Since then, six state safety programs have pledged another $560,000. We hope that others in the motorcycling community will join us in supporting the crash study."

The FHWA said researchers would evaluate data from hundreds of motorcycle crashes to help identify common factors, including road configurations, environmental conditions and rider experience. The study's focus is to examine whether effectively implemented countermeasures might affect these factors and prevent motorcycle crashes or lessen the harm when they occur, officials said.

About the American Motorcyclist Association

AMA members receive money-saving discounts from dozens of well-known suppliers of motorcycle services, gear and apparel, bike rental, transport, hotel stays and more. Yamaha Major Sponsor of British Supercross Series

Yamaha Major Sponsor of British Supercross Series

Yamaha UK will be front and centre when the British Supercross Championships burst into life at the NEC in November.

In addition to their financial support Yamaha UK's Steve Dixon's UTAG Yamaha team will be fielding a powerhouse team as a serious effort to clinch the SX1 and SX2 Future West ACU British Supercross Championships. The rapidly approaching Championship, which kicks of at the NEC on Saturday, November 28th and repeats the following Saturday evening, December 5th will run alongside the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show.

American ZACH OSBORNE and Canadian KYLE BEATON will be leading the charge for the British based factory backed Yamaha team. Beaton, who just won the Montreal SX2 class in front of 50,000 Canadian fans is on a roll and out to prove himself after an injury earlier in the year dashed his chances of a Canadian outdoor title. Former GP winner Osborne who entered the British Supercross Championship at Liverpool last year after missing the first round at Sheffield will be riding the whole series this year. Osborne also has something to prove after an injury in the GP of Portugal took him out of action earlier in the year.

Osborne and Beaton will be lining up against some serious competition including defending SX1 and SX2 champ, KTM's MIKE BROWN and of course newly sign KTM US factory star MIKE ALESSI. Alessi, arguably one of the fastest racers in the world will be out to re-position himself as top dog after an injury riddled season robbed him of the US outdoor title. Brown will be equally determined to retain his British SX1 and SX2 titles.

The best of home grown British talent will be out to win in all classes. The British Pro Open class which is open to British based riders only will give the fans an extra action packed pro class plus the best of the best in British Schoolboy, Youth, Amateur and Quad classes. None of the British riders seem more ready to beat the yanks than Carl Nunn. Nunn, the defending British Open Supercross champ proved that he can run with and beat the best by winning against Brown at Liverpool last year and by recently winning the Red Bull Pro Nationals MX1 Championship.

Runner up to Nunn last year, Par Homes and Ulster's own Gordon Crockard will be back to contest the series along with DB Racing's British based South African Neville Bradshaw. Bradshaw who recently claimed the Red Bull Pro Nationals MX2 title will be back to further add to the mix. LPE Kawasaki will also be fielding an impressive team with Elliot Banks Brown and Kristian Whatley and possibly an as yet unconfirmed offshore rider. This year's series will also get a first time look at the latest crop of Canadian young guns including Spencer Knowles from Vancouver and Manitoba's Ryan Millar. Both Millar and Knowles are products of the Canadian Arena-cross Championships that has produced some great riders over the last 20 years.

There seems to be some confusion regarding tickets for the NEC. Just to clarify the Supercross events are ticketed separately from the Carole Nash International Motorcycle and Scooter show and can be bought through The Ticket Factory box office on 0844 338 8000.

Red Bull FIM MXoN coverage by Freecaster.tv comes close to 800,000 spectators

FUNCHAL (PORTUGAL), 17 October 2009 – Offering a multilingual live coverage of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations via the internet, Freecaster.tv and Youthstream reached an impressive audience of 571,150 spectators with the live as other 209,308 viewers watched the on-demand content for a total of 780,458 spectators via the web.

For the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations Freecaster.tv and Youthstream set up the first ever multilingual live coverage including English, French (via Moto Verte) and German (via MotoX Mag). The program included the live broadcasting of the three races plus an healthy variety of on-demand content related to the event.

Concerning the live broadcast, the majority of the spectators were from the USA, Brazil, Canada, France and Germany. The first three countries exclusively benefitted of the live coverage by Freecaster.tv as no TV station aired the live of the event.

The battle for the Chamberlain Trophy being won by Team USA for their 20th time was offered free of charge and to any internet user with the support of Fox Clothing and Braun shavers.

Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo stated: “Live Streaming is considered by many as the future of television, but it has already become the present.

“The global results we obtained this year are much higher than what we had expected, at the moment it is the perfect tool to be integrated with the live television because we see three major countries such as United States, Brazil and Canada gathering a significant number of spectators, and those are the countries where the event was not broadcasted live on TV. I am delighted to see how many American fans followed our race, this is absolutely fantastic, it is great preparation for the Red Bull FIM MXoN next year in the United States.

“I want to thank the Youthstream Television Department and Freecaster.tv for their great work in permitting fans from all over the world to be able to follow Motocross live from their homes. Our intention is to continue developing Live Streaming with even more information than what we give live to television, in the future we want cameras on the top teams, special programs on the backstage, everything to allow fans to really live inside the Motocross world.”

FIM/CMS President Dr. Wolfgang Srb continued: “The global interest for Motocross is fantastic. Fans all around the world have seen the biggest Motocross event in the history of this great sport on Freecaster.tv. More than 500.000 have watched the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations live - this is stunning, far beyond expectations. What a great and successful way to finish the 2009 season!”

CEO of Freecaster Raymond Dulieu concluded: “Video on the computer currently does not have the mass reach television offers, but it is the best medium to reach out to those who live and breathe a sport. Whereas television needs to cater to the needs of many at once, Internet offers individual freedom of choice in terms of content and time when it is consumed, it offers a larger variety of content and it offers interaction. Producing a LIVE coverage in three languages for four and a half hours was a challenge we could not have undertaken without the support from Fox. I am glad we succeeded beyond expectations and that we explored new ways to reach out to Motocross fans. Since 2004, Freecaster.tv has been the leading video site for action sports and we look forward to maintaining this position by adding a new dimension to MX coverage in 2010.”

Colorado’s Geoff Aaron looks to make it two-in-a-row when GEICO EnduroCross hits Denver on Oct. 24th

The lone trials rider in the top ten overall point standings breaks up Taddy Blazusiak’s win streak at Columbus (Ohio), scores he and Christini AWD KTM’s first-ever EX win

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Oct. 15, 2009) – Denver local and recent first-time GEICO AMA Endurocross, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, winner Geoff Aaron returns home next week for the penultimate round of the 2009 EnduroCross series set to take place at Denver’s National Western Complex on Saturday, Oct. 24th.

America’s top trials-style motorcycle rider, Aaron bested a field of the world’s top off-road racers recently at a GEICO EnduroCross round held on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The win for Aaron was not only his first career EnduroCross victory, it also marked the first-ever EnduroCross win for the revolutionary Christini AWD KTM bike.

GEICO EnduroCross had a chance to catch up with the hyper-busy Aaron who’s between travel, training, setting up his company’s (Extreme Riding Entertainment, Inc.) schedule for the coming season and getting ready to host a ton of friends and family at the upcoming National Western Complex event in Denver next weekend.

GEICO EnduroCross: As one of the few top trials riders on the GEICO EnduroCross tour what advantages do you have over guys like Taddy Blazusiak and Ricky Dietrich? What are the disadvantages, if any, of being a trials rider racing EnduroCross?

Geoff Aaron: “Competing in trials has given me a lot of experience on the bike. It teaches precision and how to deal with pressure. Bike control is key and sometimes I can switch up my lines in order to make passes or take a tougher line without any hangups. The only thing trials experience doesn't help with is starts, corner speed and moto-style jumps. I've been cross training with motocross for that.”

GEICO EnduroCross: You’re like seven feet tall, man. That’s gotta help a bunch in places on the EnduroCross track like the Lucas Oil Rock Quarry and either of the two Maxxis Boulder Mountains.

Geoff Aaron: “I'm 6'4" and sometimes my height is an advantage if I have to push.

I think it helps more in extreme enduro type events that are long and tough. On the EnduroCross tracks most of the top racers are dialed in and can ride the track without using brute strength. It's nice to know I can leverage my bike if necessary but when I'm riding well I don't need to.”

GEICO EnduroCross: Seems everybody’s curious as to if you’d win – or flat out dominate EnduroCross - if they let you ride a trials bike? Or at the very least, would your lap times be faster on your trials bike than your Christini AWD KTM?

Geoff Aaron: “If the track is technical I think it would be faster and easier on a trials bike. I competed in National and World Trials for over 20 years so I look forward to racing EnduroCross on something different. Trials bikes are for trials and enduro bikes are for enduro. That's my take.”

GEICO EnduroCross: Speaking of the Christini AWD KTM, you gave the company its very first GEICO EnduroCross win in Columbus. Congrats on that. Tell us about the Christini AWD science and how it’s applied to EnduroCross.

Geoff Aaron: “Thanks. The Christini AWD system is an all mechanical design built on a standard 09' KTM 300XC. It requires a frame mod, special tank, triple clamps and drive hub. The idea is similar to an AWD car. When the rear tire spins and loses grip the front drives until traction is regained. It feels like a normal bike +20lbs but if you get stuck it'll claw its way out quicker than a standard bike. Sometimes it is a handful to control and sometimes it's magic. Overall I'm excited to be part of the development process and am happy to give Christini its first National win.”

GEICO EnduroCross: You’ve been in the hunt for race wins in the past. What allowed you to break through in Columbus?

Geoff Aaron: “Well... a couple things happened. My primary source of income is RedBull Trials exhibitions and promotions. Until recently my schedule has been out of control. For the last few seasons I've enjoyed being part of EnduroCross, but it was a secondary hobby and had to take a back seat to my trials career. This year started the same way - I had seven straight weekends of shows and tons of driving inbetween events prior to the Vegas opener. The Christini deal came together super late and the actual bike showed up Tuesday before the race. I hadn't ridden any EnduroCross’ since the final 2008. I survived the first couple rounds with so so results and then my schedule finally eased up. I started to get more serious about EnduroCross and began a legitimate training program that included trials, motocross and mountain bike riding. I almost instantly felt better on the bike and my endurance improved. I was competitive in South Carolina despite my early mistake and had to pass a lot of riders. I was more aggressive in Ohio because I lost last years race by a bike length and really wanted to redeem myself. I've put more pressure on myself to do well this year also because I want to continue racing next year and it's difficult to find good sponsorship. Hopefully I'll finish strong and be one of the guys with a good ride for 2010.”

GEICO EnduroCross: You’re currently in 2nd place overall in the GEICO EnduroCross standings, 24 points back of Blazusiak with two races remaining. That’s a lot of ground to make up, but wilder things have happened in EnduroCross (just ask Damon Huffman). What’s it going to take to wrestle a couple more wins away from the other guys?

Geoff Aaron: “Obviously, my win came a little late to disrupt Taddy's awesome season. I will keep trying hard and try to be a threat at the final races. I'm realistic about the season and am happy to be competitive with riders who have factory rides and are focusing 100-percent on racing. No regrets.”

GEICO EnduroCross: With your company, Extreme Riding Entertainment, Inc., you’re kind of like a self-contained, barnstorming, all-in-one motorcycle show. Tell us a bit about ERE, your teammates Keith Wineland and your wife, Kerry Aaron, and what your upcoming schedule looks like. (Note: Check out Aaron’s Extreme Riding Entertainment website atwww.ereonline.com )

Geoff Aaron: “I started ERE after I graduated from Ithaca College back in 96'.

Our goal was to promote the sport of trials by producing entertainment DVDs, operating a competition team, building a professional mobile showcase and performing at as many high profile events as possible. My dream has been successful and we have had some awesome highlights over the years. The future looks good, too. Our demo schedule looks to kick off in January with the Feld Freestyle Motocross tour. We are expanding EREonline.com to offer both a trials and an extreme enduro theme. We will also be trying to secure a deal to race EnduroCross and select international races in 2010 and hopefully the entire World Championship Extreme Enduro Series in 2011. My new goal is to promote trials bikes as cross trainers for all types of riding and racing. We are always trying to keep things fresh and looking for new opportunities.”

GEICO EnduroCross: Good time here to pump any other sponsors that help out Geoff Aaron and the ERE program!

Geoff Aaron: “I'd like to thank my wife, Kerry for being supportive of all my ambitions and for taking care of my son, Murphy, while the traveling is still so intense. Here are the companies that make all the fun happen: RedBull, Christini KTM, GasGas USA, Dunlop, AXO, Alpinestars, Shoei. Thanks!”

Combining multiple off road motorcycle racing disciplines such as western U.S. desert enduro racing and eastern cross country racing with technical trials-style riding, GEICO EnduroCross showcases riders from all over the world that excel in these fields.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 2010 dates of the country's premier annual celebration of motorcycling heritage. Tickets will go on sale Nov. 30. Please visit MidOhio.com or call (800) MID-OHIO for more information or to order tickets.

The 19th Annual AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days features classic motorcycles of all makes and styles, and honors the riders who made them famous. Activities include the AMA Racing Vintage Grand Championships, which feature road racing, motocross, hare scrambles, trials and dirt-track racing; North America's largest motorcycle swap meet; bike shows and awards; a Marque of the Year display that showcases the history of a unique brand; a Grand Marshal; a new-product vendor midway; stunt shows; demo rides of current production bikes; and seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts.

"AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the highlight of many motorcyclists' calendars," said AMA Special Events and Marketing Manager Tigra Tsujikawa. "By announcing the dates now, we hope to provide our fans, enthusiasts and racers ample opportunity to set their schedules for next year. As always, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will be a treat for motorcycling fans of all eras -- and ages -- and we don't want anyone to miss out on this unique opportunity."

Michelle Trueman Gajoch, president of TrueSports Inc., which owns and operates the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and Mid-Ohio School, added: "The AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days weekend is a special event that we are proud to host for the 16th straight year. Classic sportbikes on a historic track like Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course make the races a real spectacle to see. The on-track action, coupled with one of the world's largest motorcycle swap meets, is a treat for fans as well as riders."

Proceeds from AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days benefit the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. EZRA LUSK is ready for the ROCKSTAR ENERGY US OPEN

Irvine CA, Team - Entity Motorsports - MB1/TokyoMods - DeCal works - announced today that Ezra Lusk is 100% ready for the Rockstar Energy Drink U.S. Open this weekend and that the good people at the AMA have graciously decided he can run his lucky number 11 for the race.

Ezra has been training like a mad man, he's cycling 9.5 miles a day, training in the gym, running, and practicing on the bike for at least 4-6 hrs a day. His endurance is phenomenal and he is in the best shape of his life. He has really taken to heart all of the response from fans regarding his return to racing. "It's amazing" said Lusk," I have always been amazed and inspired by the fans, but I never expected this coming back, It's like I have more fans now than I ever, and I am very thankful for that"

With only a couple of days left before the race, Ezra is still the wild card of the event, no one really knows except him how fast he is, and at this point it's really only himself he's competing against when he gets on that start line everything else will fade away and it will be just him and the machine. "We feel he's ready, he feels he's ready, now it's go time" says Chad Ottenbreit of Entity Motorsports. "Ezra has been laying down some really fast lap times and we have the bike completely dialed in", Says Ron Wood of Tokyo Mods. I can't tell you exactly what we've done to the bike but I will say it's fast and Ezra is faster on it." "Ron can make it go fast but Ezra's got to be able to ride it and Factory Showa Suspension is ready for anything; Showa really hooked us up for the open", according to MB1's Mike Batista. So many people and companies have come together to support Ezra's return, that it seems like destiny is shining once again on Ezra as he packs up his gear and heads to Las Vegas, " I feel good, I feel fast, and I want to show all the folks who have helped me get back and especially the fans I am here and I am ready to race!" said Lusk Tuesday from his Georgia home.

"I'd have to say he's faster than he's ever been" Says Jamie Allen of Relentless Media. "It's not often in life that someone gets a second chance, If anyone can do this its Ezra. He has more determination than anyone I know and if he wants it bad enough, which I think he does, I don't see why he can't get inside the top 5 or even knock on wood, a podium." Allen added. "Where we go from here is completely up to Ezra now, as a team we have built him a fast bike, dialed in the suspension, and got him to the race at the MGM. We've done our part, now show time for EZRA. If all goes well this race will be just the beginning of a new career, next it's on to supercross and maybe outdoors depending on commitment from sponsors" said Chad Ottenbreit .
