Taddy Blazusiak wins round two of the 2009 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series in Guthrie Oklahoma

Dominating win in front of another epic battle for second place makes Taddy the only rider eligible for the $50,000 Geico Triple Crown

Photos by: Chris Hultner

GUTHRIE, OK (Aug. 15, 2009) – By EnduroCross standards, Red Bull KTM’s Taddy Blazusiak dominated the main event tonight in Guthrie Oklahoma .  But the battle for second was anything but boring as the large crowd cheered on a five rider battle over second that finally went to Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Damon Huffman.  The final spot on the podium went to Zip Ty Racing Husqvarna’s Cory Graffunder, a top Canadian off road racer that has been steadily improving his EnduroCross skills over the past year.

Christini KTM mounted Geoff Aaron took forth position ahead of Lucas Oil, Kawasaki backed Colton Haaker and Mike Brown who all held podium positions at one time during the main event.  AmPro FMF Yamaha’s Kyle Redmund battled Mike Brown to the finish but settled for the seventh position ahead of Nick Brozovich, Destry Abbot and Patrick Smage, the current U.S. Trials champion and Jamie Lanza.

Northland Kawasaki ’s Jamie Lanza earned the $500 Girardi Wealth management holeshot in the main event but finished eleventh due to a severely twisted brake lever.  Blazusiaki quickly took over the lead and rode a mostly mistake free race until he hit the ground on lap six but still maintained a relatively safe lead.  The battle for the podium was intense with Damon Huffman holding the position early before giving it up to Mike Brown who in turn fell and handed it to Colton Haaker.  It was then Husqvarna’s Graffunder that held the position before giving it up to Huffman who charged back towards the front after crashing twice and falling as far back as fifth.

Ricky Dietrich, the defending EnduroCross champion suffered a foot injury during his qualifying “hot lap” that forced him to the hospital for x-rays during the time that he should have taking part in his heat race.  The x-ray fortunately showed no broken bones but he was unable to compete on this night.  Another notable rider that did not qualify for the main was multi time ArenaCross Champion Josh Demuth, who came up one position short by finishing third in the Last Chance Qualifier but it was an impressive first attempt at EnduroCross.

Junior World Champions 2009 are Eli Tomac and Jay Wilson

TAUPO (NEW ZEALAND), 16 August 2009 – Australian rider Jay Wilson (85cc) and American Eli Tomac (125 cc) are new FIM Junior Motocross World Champions 2009.

Rain throughout the weekend did not deter crowds of over 10,000 who enjoyed thrilling racing in what was the first time the Junior Motocross World Championship event has left European shores.

 125 cc

Eli Tomac (Honda) was the only American rider this weekend in New Zealand. Tomac won the 125cc class ahead of Australian Tye Simmonds and home rider Hamish Dobbyn. Warkworth’s Hamish Dobbyn has celebrated the debut of World Championship motocross racing in New Zealand by finishing third. Dobbyn is the first Kiwi ever to finish on the podium. He said: “It’s wonderful to finish on the podium at my home event. Many people supported me but for sure I would not reach this result without my family and without Ben Townley, who helped me a lot.”

125 cc start

The new FIM Junior World Champion Eli Tomac was a favourite already before the event. Tomac said: “It was nice to compete in New Zealand. Thank to the organizer to prepare this wonderful track. I think I haven’t realized yet I became the World Champion. Thank also to sponsors, family and everybody who helped me to get this result.”

Australian Tye Simmonds said it’s a wonderful feeling to become the Vice World Champion: “I got the second place after winning the second moto. The organizer made a good job on the track. Competing here was an honour for me.”

Glenn Coldenhoff from Netherlands, the third rider from the Junior World Championship 2008 finished fifth. Coldenhoff said: “I am very disappointed. I wanted and I expected to finish on the podium. Specially after yesterday’s Qualifying Practice, where I finished second. Thank to our federation, I would not be here without their help.”

125 cc podium - Tye Simmonds, Eli Tomac and Hamish Dobbyn

85 cc

In the 85cc class Jay Wilson won Australia’s first ever motocross World Championship ahead of Italian Samuele Bernardini and Australian Dylan Long. Wilson won the first race, while Bernardini was the best in the second. Wilson said: “I’m really happy to get the World Champion Title here in New Zealand. Although the weather conditions it was a great weekend. I was enjoying very much and thank to everybody for the support.”

Italian Samuele Bernardini was very satisfied with the second race and also with the result. The new Vice World Champion said: “I am very happy. I crashed in the first race, then I took the holeshot in the second and won. Big thanks to sponsors, mechanic and of course to our Italian Federation, which helped me to come over here in New Zealand.”

Jay Wilson

Third rider Dylan Long from Australia was satisfied with the weekend and he said: “My whole team has been working very hard and I am glad for this result. The track was great.”

Sensational result of the home rider in the 125cc class combined with 13 year old girl Courtney Duncan’s 6th to take New Zealand to the third place in the Nations Trophy. The result of a young girl, competing in the 85cc class was the best ever by a female in the FIM Junior Motocross World Championship racing and she demonstrated her outstanding riding ability by finishing fourth in the second race.

French Dylan Ferrandis, who took the pole position in the Qualifying Practice, crashed during the Warm-up and broke the arm. He was out of the competition before it has actually started.

85 cc podium – Samuele Bernardini, Jay Wilson and Dylan Long

Australia conquered the first place in the Nations Classification. Italia was second, New Zealand third and Netherlands fourth.

The FIM Junior Motocross World Championship 2010 will take place in France.

Real Racerhead #33....

Posted by: TFS

Tagged in: Untagged

TFS

Real Racerhead is RT's occasional spoof of the "Spin of the Week" column by the Sport's Octopus...

Welcome to Racerhead, coming to you from somewhere mid-81 or 78 or something…. [Insert semi-interesting road trip drivel to sound cool...]

Despite my efforts to act like I support Team USA's participation in the annual Motocross of Nations, I really hate this race, and have to write this crap...

Tomorrow (Saturday at Unadilla) will also mark the announcement of Team USA 2009, as the American boys get ready to head back over to Europe for what could be our fifth straight win against the rest of the world. It’s no secret that our choices are limited, given the rash of injuries this season that has knocked everyone from Ryan Villopoto to Mike Alessi out of contention, but Team USA manager Roger DeCoster feels he has a solid lineup of young riders who can get the job done in Italy.

I failed at getting us to back out again, but I will figure out a way to get named in the press release or something, because standing in front of the effort is the next best thing to falsely standing behind it.

I also failed at sabotaging next year's MXoN in America, so I have to pretend some more... ...you also may have noticed the Breaking News that the 2010 Red Bull Motocross of Nations is coming to Thunder Valley in Lakewood, Colorado. Damn! Youthstream is going to run a very popular race in MY territory! I REALLY hate this! The race will mark the third time in history that the MXoN has been held on U.S. soil, and my second failed attempt to block it. Promoter David Clabaugh and his crew will no doubt do a fine job hosting the rest of the world on a well-liked track that has been on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship schedule for just five years.

The last time the MXoN was held at an AMA National track was Budds Creek in 2007, and the race was a smashing success for promoter Jonathan Beasley. I spread false rumors that Beasley lost over $1M last time because, well, that's just how I roll! That sets a high bar for Thunder Valley, but knowing Clabaugh and the support he will have from his fellow promoters, who will be there to try and make it look like this great event is great because of their hard work, and of course Youthstream, the event’s annual organizer, I’m sure they will get the job done, even though I really want it to fail.

Youthstream organized the biggest and best motocross race in America at Budds last time, and that is embarrassing for myself and shows how weak promotion is here in the US. At least I also have a magazine and website, so I can spin things like Faux News, and no one will notice.

It's time to crank up the road tunes and forget about it, I guess, and think of more ways to get my name in front of the news that I hate so much....

Team San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart Supports Roger Decoster's Selection of Riders for the 2009 Motocross des Nations Team USA

Los Angeles, CA - August 15th, 2009 - While there was a chance that James Stewart might compete as a member of Team USA in the 2009 Motocross des Nations on October 4th, 2009 (Franciacorta, Italy), the final selection was announced and the honor has been given to riders Ryan Dungey (MX1), Jake Weimer (MX2) and  Ivan Tedesco (MX3).   All three members of the Team have been competing in the Motocross Outdoor National series and hold top ranking positions.
When asked how he felt about their selection, James Stewart had this to say:  “I haven't raced or tested for outdoors in nearly a year and the last time I did, I was riding a different brand of bike. Roger has made an excellent choice.  These guys have been racing hard throughout the outdoor season and doing very well.  I've said all along that being selected for the Motocross des Nations Team should be earned by those who do well competing in the outdoors series.  I would be disappointed if I was racing the MX Outdoor series all along and they picked someone for the Team that didn't.  I wouldn't do that to these guys.  They've earned this and they've got a great chance at keeping the Trophy here in the USA.”
In the meantime, Stewart is working hard testing and training for a busy Fall race schedule that includes the US Open of Supercross (Las Vegas, NV), Bercy Supercross (Paris, France), Genoa Supercross (Genoa, Italy) and his first appearance in Australia at this Brisbane Super X.   For the latest Team San Manuel news and updates on James Stewart, log on to

American Motorcyclist Association announces AMA Team USA riders
for 2009 Motocross of Nations

PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the members of AMA Team USA for the 2009 Motocross of Nations. Ivan Tedesco, Ryan Dungey and Jake Weimer will race for American pride as AMA Team USA goes for its 20th Motocross of Nations victory at the Autodromo Daniel Bonara in Franciacorta, Italy, this Oct. 4-5.

"We're thrilled with the talent on AMA Team USA this year," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "Sharp and ready thanks to a summer of doing battle in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships, these riders are performing at the peak of their abilities, and we're honored that they have agreed to represent the United States and the AMA at this prestigious event."

Said AMA Team USA Manager Roger DeCoster: "We feel confident that we have the right three riders for Team USA. This is one of those years when it's not easy to pick the team. At the start, it seemed pretty obvious, but then came injuries. We spent a lot of time talking among the AMA, the Octopus, and even Ricky Carmichael and James Stewart weighed in on the final choice. With the support we have in place, we feel these three riders can do the job." [quote slightly edited for honesty :) ]

Dungey will race the MX1 class, which features 450cc four-stroke machinery. Weimer will compete in the MX2 class, which features 250cc four-stroke motorcycles. Tedesco will race the MX3 class, the open class.

Ivan Tedesco, who races for Honda Red Bull Racing, also rode for AMA Team USA when it won the Motocross of Nations in 2005 and 2006. Tedesco is currently fourth in points in the 450 class in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

"It's an absolute honor to be chosen to be a part of Team USA to represent America at the 2009 MX of Nations," Tedesco said. "Having the opportunity to represent your country on the world stage and race against some of the best motocross racers from countries right across the globe is something every rider can only ever dream of doing. I couldn't be happier to have this opportunity again in 2009.

"This will be my third time racing for Team USA,'' Tedesco added. "I'm definitely going to draw strength from my previous experiences racing at this international level to help Team USA win."

Ryan Dungey, who races for Rockstar Makita Suzuki, will be competing on AMA Team USA for the first time in his career. Dungey is currently tied for the lead in the 250 class in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

Said Dungey: "Getting invited to represent the USA for this year's Motocross of Nations is literally a dream come true. Ever since I was a little guy growing up in Minnesota, I have dreamed of one day representing my country for our team. I think with Ivan and Jake, we'll have a really strong team, and I'm looking forward to making my outdoor debut on an RMZ450. After the outdoor season wraps up, I'll probably head out to California and begin testing with our Rockstar Makita Suzuki team to get things dialed in."

This also will be the first time on AMA Team USA for Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Jake Weimer. Weimer is coming off a solid AMA Supercross season where he finished second in Supercross Lites West behind Dungey. He is currently fifth in points in the 250 class in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championships.

"It's a huge privilege to represent the USA and be a part of the Motocross of Nations," Weimer said. "I'm super excited about this. I've been to Italy to race a Supercross in 2007, so it will be cool to go back and race for Team USA. Growing up and watching the Motocross of Nations and seeing it on video, it's such an honor to be picked. This is definitely something that I think every kid racing would want to be a part of."

The Motocross of Nations is one of the most prestigious motocross races in the world. It features national teams competing for a combined score to determine the overall championship-winning team. The event emerged in post-war Europe in 1947 and has run uninterrupted since. The United States is the all-time leader in Motocross of Nations overall victories with 19. Great Britain is second with 16.

The area of Franciacorta is between the city of Brescia, Lake Iseo and the border with the Pianura Padana. Brescia is the closest large city to the track and also boasts some motorsports history, as it played host to the first automobile GP in Italy and the historic Mille Miglia. The last time the Motocross of Nations ran on Italian soil was at Maggiora in 1986.

Youthstream is pleased to announce that the 2010 Red Bull Motocross of Nations, will be run at the Thunder Valley Motocross Park facility, just outside metro Denver, in Lakewood, Colorado on September 25 & 26.

Only three years after the amazing success of Budds Creek, Maryland, that marked the last professional motocross appearance of the legendary Ricky Carmichael, the Red Bull Motocross of Nations will be back in the heartland of team USA, the winningest team of the last two decades.

Over 30 countries will send their three best riders to compete for the coveted ‘Chamberlain Trophy’ – the equivalent of ‘Olympic Gold’, as the Red Bull Motocross of Nations is also known as "The Olympics of Motorcycling".

2010 will mark the 64th edition of this event, and this will be the third time it’s ever been held in the USA, following this year’s Franciacorta, Italy edition.

For this exciting return to the US soil Youthstream teams up with Thunder Valley Promotions, the company widely recognized best motocross organizer in the country for a strong and promising partnership.

A statement from Mr. Giuseppe Luongo, President of Youthstream:

“We are extremely proud to bring the prestigious Red Bull Motocross of Nations to the Denver area in 2010. In 2007, we brought the event to Maryland, and it was one of the most successful motorcycle races ever accomplished in the USA.

In 2008, we promised the entire world, both fans and industry, that we would return the event to the USA on a regular basis. Now, in 2009, we are glad to announce that we have fulfilled that goal, with the 2010 Red Bull Motocross of Nations being held in Lakewood, Colorado the last weekend of September.

We have communicated with riders, teams, industry, and fans. We have analyzed every aspect in choosing the proper venue – the infrastructure, the track promoter, the hotel availability, things to do in the city before & after the event, airport & access for fans that will attend from all over the world. Colorado and Thunder Valley Motocross meet all those standards and more.

I would like to thank both Mr. David Clabaugh, the owner of Thunder Valley Motocross Park, and Youthstream USA General Manager Mr. Mario Marini. Together, they have worked very hard to make this event a reality.  I would also like to thank the FIM and AMA for their support in making this happen.

Together, we now have much work to do to make this the biggest & best motocross event ever in the USA, and quite possibly the world.”

Dr. Wolfgang Srb, President of the FIM Motocross Commission (CMS) said:

“This is a win - win - win situation for everybody. The biggest and most important Motocross race of the world returns to the USA, only a few years after the successful event in Budds Creek. This is brilliant news for the Motocross community and for all the fans.

“The FIM Motocross of Nations is the showcase of our sport and deserves to be staged on the best venues. Thunder Valley Motocross Park ranks around the top venues worldwide and will be a first class facility. Congratulations to all who made this most important deal possible!”
